The DeKalb
County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy Monday
on a newborn girl who was discovered Sunday in a burning
trash bin at the Salem Crossing Shopping Center on Panola
Road. No
determination has been made whether the death is a homicide.
The autopsy indicated there was amniotic fluid in the baby's
stomach with the umbilical cord attached, investigators said.
Investigators said
the baby appeared to have developed about seven months, and
might have been born premature.
The DeKalb County
district attorney's office is looking into the death, said
District Attorney J. Tom Morgan. Morgan said that there were
two reported fires in the trash bin the day of the incident,
though he wasn't sure if they were separate or one fire had
reignited.
Police are asking
that anyone with information contact the department's Criminal
Investigation Division at 404-294-2574 or 404-294-2570.
